For hundreds of years, drum rudiment and method books have relied on the same traditional black-and-white notation. While effective, this style of learning doesn’t always capture the attention of today’s kids and teens, who often need something more engaging. Black and white dots on a page simply aren’t cutting it anymore, which led us to create something new and exciting—a Drum Rudiment Book that speaks directly to this generation of aspiring drummers.
The concept behind Drums In Color came from a simple question: Why not make a method book with colored notes that correspond to specific drums on the set? But how could we make this work practically without the cost and complexity of creating custom-colored drum heads? After much brainstorming, we found the answer—drum rings.
Drum rings are commonly used to dampen noise and remove overtones, but we saw an opportunity to give them a dual purpose. By designing these rings out of paper, not only could we make them affordable and customizable for different drum sizes, but we could also color-code them. Now, when students look at the Drums In Color method book, they can see a colored note and instantly match it with the corresponding colored drum on their kit. This makes learning more intuitive and fun, allowing students to stay engaged and progress faster than ever before.
Since then, Drums In Color has evolved from a concept into a fully developed learning system. Our first method book was a success, and now we’re hard at work on Book 2. You can currently purchase Book 1 on Amazon, and the colored drum rings are available on our site. The second book is coming soon, so stay tuned for its release!
With this new system, we’ve reimagined how drum students can learn rudiments and master their instrument, making practice more fun and effective for today’s young drummers. If you’re looking for the best Drum Rudiment Book for kids and teens, Drums In Color is the answer. Keep an eye out for the next chapter in this innovative drum learning experience!
